This is a WebQuest designed to give you a better understanding of an era called The Great Depression, which took place in the 1930's.  By becoming familiar with what life was like for Americans during this time, you will have a better understanding of the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. Your job is to complete each Task on a word document.  Be sure to print out and turn in each section as you complete it.

1.  Go the following website and click on “Causes of the Great Depression.”  Write a paragraph using your own words to explain the 4 main causes of The Great Depression.

2.  Sharecropping is a major topic in Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor.  Use the following website read about sharecropping.  Then compile (make) a list of why you believe sharecropping did not benefit African American’s.  The list may be bulleted or numbered.

3.  Growing up African American in the 1930s was not easy.  Read the interview on the website below of an African American woman who grew up in the South in the 1930s.  Then create a one page double spaced diary entry that she could have written as a young girl during that time.
